Saalbach and Hinterglemm are two villages a few kilometres apart in the Glemmtal, a narrow valley in the Salzburg Pinzgau, and together they have a busy après-ski scene. Saalbach has a compact centre around its church with the lifts leaving from the edge of the village; Hinterglemm is further up the valley and more spread out. Après-ski is loud and starts early, and the resort is known for it.

The skiing is the Skicircus, which runs up both sides of the valley and links over to Leogang and Fieberbrunn. It is mostly red and blue, wide and well groomed, and the circuit around the valley is a good day out for confident intermediates. The trade-off at Christmas is altitude: the villages sit low and the ski area tops out at a modest height, so a mild December tells on the lower runs, and the resort relies on its snowmaking to keep the circuit open early in the season.
