At 1,930 metres Obergurgl has the highest village of any Austrian resort we cover, and it is the answer to the objection that Austrian resorts are too low for Christmas. The Ötztal glaciers are nearby and the terrain above the village faces north.

The ski area, shared with neighbouring Hochgurgl, is compact by Austrian standards and the terrain is mostly comfortable intermediate cruising, immaculately kept. It is a quiet, family-oriented, slightly expensive resort that people return to for decades. Nobody comes here for nightlife.
