Lavender Hill

Lavender Hill is a self-catered chalet in Saalbach Hinterglemm, sleeping 10 in 5 bedrooms. It has a sauna and a fireplace. A log fire on Christmas Eve is one of the reasons people book a chalet over an apartment.

Saalbach Hinterglemm scores 28 out of 100 on our Christmas Snow Score, with the village at 1003m. That makes it more dependent on the weather in late December, which is worth weighing before you book.

Sleeping 10, it suits a large family Christmas or two families travelling together. It is self-catered, so you cook — including on the 25th. That suits groups who want to eat on their own schedule.

It is not ski-to-door, so factor in getting to the lifts each morning. Resort supermarkets keep short and unpredictable hours over Christmas and many close entirely on the 25th. Order ahead or shop on arrival. Pets are not allowed. Check the bed layout and what is included (linen, towels, final cleaning) on Booking.com before you book — Christmas week is often sold as a fixed seven nights.
