Can You Still Book a Last-Minute Christmas Ski Holiday?

What happened to late Christmas availability in the last three winters

The best evidence of what is left late is what operators said in the weeks before Christmas. It has varied a lot from year to year.

So a late Christmas booking was possible in December 2023 and December 2024, with discounts. By December 2025 the main operators had little left. There is no pattern that lets you predict a given year in advance.

Prices that were on offer late

In December 2023, a few days before Christmas departures:

• Ski Beat cut Chalet Chamois in Plan Peisey to £995 per person for 23 December, from £1,342, with flights and transfers.
• Le Ski dropped its remaining Christmas chalets to £799.
• Iglu Ski had Chalet Chanterelles in La Plagne at £618 per person for seven nights from 23 December, without flights or transfers.
• VIP SKI had No. 5 Bellevarde in Val d'Isère at £2,175 per person from 20 December, down from £2,419.

In late October 2025, Crystal was listing December "late deals" that included Christmas week: half-board hotels in Bansko, Bulgaria, from £591 per person and in San Martino di Castrozza, Italy, from £604, both departing 20 December 2025 with flights and transfers.

What tends to be left late

• Hotels and apartments more than chalets. SNO's 2023 comment was about late hotel deals, and several of the December offers above were apartments or hotels.
• Less famous resorts and cheaper countries. Crystal's October 2025 Christmas offers were in Bulgaria and a smaller Dolomites resort, not the big French names.
• Some chalets in big resorts. When we checked one operator, Le Ski, on 21 September 2026, 12 of its 32 chalets were still unsold for Christmas week (see when to book a Christmas ski chalet).

The week before Christmas is not a reliable fallback. In May 2025 VIP SKI said its 14 December week was already 88% sold, and in September 2025 Ski Beat said its 13 December departure was almost full and outselling Christmas week.

Where last-minute availability shows up

• Operators' own late-deals pages. Skiworld runs a Last Minute Ski Deals section, and Crystal labelled its October 2025 offers as late deals.
• Phone and enquiry forms. Ski Solutions asks customers to call or send an enquiry for current prices and availability rather than listing Christmas prices online.
• Deal round-ups. InTheSnow publishes operators' Christmas offers each winter, which is where the December 2023 and 2024 comments above came from.

Tactics for booking Christmas late

1. Be flexible on the day you travel. Skiworld flies Sunday to Sunday for Christmas 2026 (20 to 27 December). Other operators change over on Saturdays. Asking for both widens what you see.
2. Consider driving. Self-drive packages include the Channel crossing, so you are not tied to flight availability. Peak Retreats listed a Tignes 1800 apartment for 19 December 2026 at £653 per person, based on five sharing, including a return Eurotunnel crossing for one car.
3. Price flights before you commit to a chalet. easyJet put its flights for late October 2026 to January 2027 on sale on 9 December 2025, and MoneySavingExpert noted that fares tend to go up quickly after a launch. A cheap chalet can be undone by dear flights, which is one reason a package with flights included can make sense late on.
4. Look higher. If you book late you can see how the early season is going before you pay. The higher resorts in our Christmas Snow Report have been the most reliable on Christmas morning.
5. Be flexible on the resort. The late offers above were spread across many resorts and countries, so a fixed resort narrows the choice most.

The risks of leaving it late

Skiworld recommends booking Christmas between May and September, and Ski Solutions also advises booking early. Late bookers take what is left, and in December 2025 the main operators had little left.

Flights and travel

MoneySavingExpert's advice on easyJet's winter release was that fares tend to rise quickly after launch, so flights booked late in the year for Christmas are unlikely to be at the launch price. If the only flights left are dear or at awkward times, the saving on the accommodation can disappear.

Snow

Leaving it late has one advantage: you know more about the snow before you pay. In December 2023 Ski Beat said resorts were white and the pistes open. The weather still decides a great deal. Switzerland's snow and avalanche institute, SLF, has found that snow is arriving later in autumn at lower stations, and that winters are becoming less snowy at most stations below 1,300m, while midwinter depths above 2,000m show no clear trend. Our own measurements agree. On the slopes, 89% of Christmases from 1996 to 2010 had at least 30cm of snow on the ground, against 85% since 2011. In villages below 1,400m, white Christmases fell from 79% to 57%. In 2015, the worst year in the record, 12 of 18 slopes stations had less than 30cm. If Christmas week has gone

New Year week, from 26 December, and January are the usual alternatives. In December 2025, while Iglu Ski described the festive season as all but sold out, it said January was still possible, and SNO was advertising January holidays at less than half price.
