Cervinia sits at 2,050 metres on the Italian side of the Matterhorn — which the Italians call the Cervino — and its combination of altitude and glacier access makes it the most reliable Christmas snow in Italy by a comfortable margin. The lifts climb to the Plateau Rosa at around 3,500 metres and over the ridge into Zermatt, so you can ski to Switzerland for lunch.
The skiing is famously long, wide and gentle: superb for beginners and early intermediates, genuinely limited for experts. The village is functional rather than beautiful. You come here for the snow, the sunshine and the value, not the architecture.
