Chalet Lièvre Blanc - LES CHALETS COVAREL

Chalet Lièvre Blanc - LES CHALETS COVAREL is a self-catered chalet in Val d'Isère, sleeping 8 in 4 bedrooms. The nearest lift, Ballevarde Express, is about 550m away, so plan on a bus or a drive to the snow each morning. It has a hot tub and a fireplace. In the last week of December the afternoons are short and everybody comes in cold, which is when a hot tub stops being a luxury and earns its place. Beds: 2 large doubles, 1 double and 1 extra-large double, with 4 bathrooms.

Val d'Isère scores 73 out of 100 on our Christmas Snow Score, with the village at 1849m. That is among the more dependable places to be skiing in Christmas week.

Sleeping 8 is the classic family or small-group size. Pets are allowed, so the dog can come for Christmas too. It is self-catered, so you cook — including on the 25th. That suits groups who want to eat on their own schedule.

It is not ski-to-door, so factor in getting to the lifts each morning. Resort supermarkets keep short and unpredictable hours over Christmas and many close entirely on the 25th. Order ahead or shop on arrival. Check the bed layout and what is included (linen, towels, final cleaning) on Booking.com before you book — Christmas week is often sold as a fixed seven nights.
