Chalet La Petite Forêt

Chalet La Petite Forêt is a self-catered chalet in Megève, sleeping 8 in 4 bedrooms. The nearest lift, TK des Pattes 2, is about 550m away, so plan on a bus or a drive to the snow each morning. It has a hot tub and a fireplace. In the last week of December the afternoons are short and everybody comes in cold, which is when a hot tub stops being a luxury and earns its place. Beds: 2 large doubles, 1 double and 2 singles, with 3 bathrooms.

Megève scores 27 out of 100 on our Christmas Snow Score, with the village at 1113m. That makes it more dependent on the weather in late December, which is worth weighing before you book.

Sleeping 8 is the classic family or small-group size. It is self-catered, so you cook — including on the 25th. That suits groups who want to eat on their own schedule.

It is not ski-to-door, so factor in getting to the lifts each morning. Resort supermarkets keep short and unpredictable hours over Christmas and many close entirely on the 25th. Order ahead or shop on arrival. Pets are not allowed. Check the bed layout and what is included (linen, towels, final cleaning) on Booking.com before you book — Christmas week is often sold as a fixed seven nights.
