Chalet Domisiladoré

Chalet Domisiladoré is a self-catered chalet in Châtel, sleeping 12 in 6 bedrooms. The nearest lift, Petit Châtel, is about 180m away — close enough to walk in boots. It has a fireplace. A log fire on Christmas Eve is one of the reasons people book a chalet over an apartment. Beds: 4 large doubles and 4 singles, with 5 bathrooms.

Châtel scores 27 out of 100 on our Christmas Snow Score, with the village at 1200m. That makes it more dependent on the weather in late December, which is worth weighing before you book.

Sleeping 12, it suits a large family Christmas or two families travelling together. It lists family facilities such as a high chair or family rooms, which is the detail that decides it for anyone travelling with small children. It is self-catered, so you cook — including on the 25th. That suits groups who want to eat on their own schedule.

Resort supermarkets keep short and unpredictable hours over Christmas and many close entirely on the 25th. Order ahead or shop on arrival. A chalet this size usually only goes as a whole, so it is a better fit for a group that has already formed. Pets are not allowed. Check the bed layout and what is included (linen, towels, final cleaning) on Booking.com before you book — Christmas week is often sold as a fixed seven nights.
